The only thing harder then being a Vegan in Texas is being a Vegan in Texas during the Holidays. My family is your typical "meat & potatoes" so family dinners are never easy. Fortunately my Sister and her family are Vegan as well and we form a vocal majority during family treks to eat out.
We recently visited the Gaylord Texan to see the Ice Display. We had gone last year and had fun plus they had a great mexican place and all Vegan and non-Vegan people were happy. This year we planned the same thing only we went on New Year's Day. The only problem with that is every restaurant had a fixed menu that was the opposite of Vegan Friendly. So the mexican place that we enjoyed last year had a brunch with ZERO food that would be Vegan. Yes, ZERO as in not even a salad. We ended up at a sports bar and they had the full menu and this was really our only option. The menu was standard sports bar fare but no problem, I'm a Vegan McGuyver. I had a hamburger bun with avocado, pico, onions, ketchup, & a side of french fries. I washed that feast down with a Sierra Nevada and presto I'm full.
My sister had a bowl of guacamole and some pickles while everyone else bathed in animal flesh. So the moral of the story is if you have a paper clip and some avocado I can figure out how to make lunch and that trying to find a meal on a New Year's Day is a Vegan challenge if you don't plan ahead.
